Dear child who has been abused or neglected
Dear child who has been abused or neglected,
I am sorry that we have let you down. I am sorry that your parents gave birth to you then when you needed us the most we were not there. I am sorry you have broken bones. I am sorry you have a broken heart. I am sorry that you have a broken spirit. I am sorry that you are sitting in a CPS office scared, alone, and confused late at night. I am sorry that you can hear the CPS workers struggling to find someone to let you sleep in their house if just for the night. I am sorry that every time the worker hangs up the phone with a look of frustration on their face your heart is broken a little more because you know that look means another person said they don’t want you. I am sorry your brother and sisters are being sent to different homes. I am sorry that someone you loved and trusted may you do unspeakable acts to them and them to you. I am sorry we have failed you once again and now you are going to a shelter.
I am sorry that we forget what James 1:27 gives us a clear understanding of what true and pure religion is and we ignore the very orphan that God told us to care for. I am sorry that we skip over Matthew 25 when Christ tells us plainly that what we do to the least of these we do to him. He also tells us that what we do not do for the least of these we have not done for him. I am sorry we ignore that part of the Bible.
I am sorry that as Christians, we forget what Pro-Life really means. I am sorry that we forget that Pro-life means if that parent cannot get off drugs, we are here. If that baby lives and the parent cannot get away from that abusive relationship, then we are here. If that baby is not aborted, and you become stressed and think of harming him or her, we are here. If at any point in your life your biological parents fail to protect you from harm, break you, burn your, rape you, or harm you in any way, then we are here.
So, I promise you that I will be your voice. That I will continue to fight your fight. I promise that I will tell your story to anyone who will listen. I will not just be here to tell your parents their sin then go home, climb into my comfortable bed, in my comfortable house that sits in my comfortable neighborhood. I promise that I will not just be here to tell them what not to do, then go sit on my comfortable seat in church Sunday morning and forget that you exist. I promise to do my very best to advocate for you. To pull people out of their comfort zones and open blind eyes to your truth. I promise to bring truth and light in to your world I promise to do all that I can so that you can live to be all that you can be.Tweet
