Christmas at TruLight Youth Village
The Village can serve up to 11 children and teens, ages 5–18.One of the realities of foster care is that we can't tell you today exactly who will be sitting around our Christmas tree in December.
A child who is here today may be home with family by Christmas.
Another child may arrive just days before Christmas carrying very little with them.
But whoever is here on Christmas morning will have Christmas.
We want every child waking up at the Village to have gifts to open, a stocking with their name on it, favorite foods to eat, traditions to participate in, and people around them making the day special. But Christmas at the Village is about much more than Christmas morning.
Help Us Fill the Christmas Break, Too
School breaks can be especially difficult for children in foster care.
School is out. Normal routines change. There are long stretches of unstructured time. Friends may be traveling, visiting relatives, or talking about everything they're doing with their families.
For some of our kids, the holidays can be a painful reminder that they aren't home with theirs.
That's why we intentionally work to keep our kids active, connected, and surrounded by people who care throughout the Christmas break. We don't want them spending two weeks sitting around the Village thinking about where they wish they could be.We want to give them something to look forward to.
That might mean piling into the van in pajamas to look at Christmas lights and get hot chocolate. It might be bowling, skating, a movie, an arcade, a special dinner, or a Christmas attraction. It might be baking cookies, decorating gingerbread houses, making ornaments, having a ridiculously competitive game night, doing crafts, playing basketball, watching Christmas movies, or having a video-game tournament right at home. For our older teens, it might be an escape room, shopping trip, sporting event, or another experience that actually feels fun to them.
Some activities cost money. Some cost almost nothing.
What matters is that we're together. For a child who isn't able to spend Christmas with family, simply knowing “we're doing something tomorrow” can make a hard day feel a little less heavy.

Christmas Beyond the Village
Caring for the Families Who Show Up Every Day
Our TruLight family doesn't stop at the Village doors.
Throughout our community are foster, adoptive, and kinship families doing the hard, beautiful, and often unseen work of loving children from hard places—24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
-
They are there for the middle-of-the-night fears.
-
The behaviors that don't always make sense until you understand the story underneath them.
-
The appointments, school meetings, caseworker visits, therapy sessions, court dates, paperwork, medication schedules, family visits, phone calls, transportation, advocacy, and endless calendar juggling.
-
They are learning how to parent children whose experiences may have taught them that adults aren't safe, food isn't always available, people leave, or love comes with conditions.
And they keep showing up.
That matters.
Foster, adoptive, and kinship parents are doing much more than providing a bed and putting food on the table.
They are helping children experience consistency.
-
Safety.
-
Connection.
-
Belonging.
And the sometimes slow, sometimes messy process of learning that an adult can be trusted to stay.
For many of these families, there isn't really an “off” button. Trauma doesn't take Christmas break. In fact, holidays can bring more emotions, more memories, more questions, and more complicated behaviors for children who have experienced separation, loss, abuse, neglect, or multiple moves. While much of the world is slowing down and celebrating, these caregivers are still doing the work.
24 hours a day. 7 days a week. Even on Christmas morning.
This Christmas, Let's Care for the Caregivers Too
Sometimes supporting a child means supporting the adults who are doing everything they can to care for that child.
-
A grocery gift card can mean one less expense to worry about.
-
Christmas presents can mean a foster parent doesn't have to figure out how to stretch an already tight budget for another child who arrived unexpectedly.
-
A restaurant or activity gift card can give an adoptive family an opportunity to make a memory together.
-
Helping with Christmas dinner can take one thing off the plate of a kinship grandparent who suddenly found themselves raising children again.
And sometimes the greatest gift is simply knowing: Someone sees us, too.
We want our foster, adoptive, and kinship families to know that the community standing behind TruLight127 sees the work they are doing.
-
We see the sacrifice.
-
We see the exhaustion.
-
We see the appointments and advocacy no one posts pictures of.
-
We see the victories that might look tiny to everyone else but are enormous in their home.
-
We see the parents who keep learning, adjusting, apologizing, trying again, and showing up.
-
And we see the love.
Not the picture-perfect kind. The kind of love that stays when things are hard.
Wrap Around a Family This Christmas
When you give through Be the Light This Christmas, you're not only putting presents under a tree.
You're wrapping around a family that has chosen to wrap around a child.
Your generosity can help provide Christmas gifts, groceries, gift cards, meals, family experiences, and other needs that give caregivers a little breathing room during an already demanding season.
Because if we want children from hard places to have strong, healthy families surrounding them, we have to take care of those families, too.
They show up for our kids every single day.
This Christmas, let's show up for them.
Prefer to Shop?
We would love that, too!
Because we don't always know exactly which children will be at the Village by Christmas, new, unwrapped gifts for ages 5–18 help us remain prepared for whoever walks through our doors.
Helpful items include: Gift cards • Headphones • Bluetooth speakers • Art supplies • Journals • Sports equipment • Board games • LEGO and building sets • Dolls • Cars and action figures • Beauty and self-care items • Backpacks and bags • Pajamas • Hoodies • Cozy blankets • Books • Teen accessories • Games • Craft supplies
As Christmas gets closer and we know more about the specific children and families we will be serving, individual wish lists may also be shared when possible.
Help Us Be Ready for Whoever Is Here
That's really what this campaign is about.
We don't know exactly who will be sitting around our tree on Christmas morning.
We don't know which family may call and need a little extra help.
We don't know which teenager may be spending their first Christmas away from home.
And we don't know which child may walk through the Village doors just days before Christmas.
But we can be ready.
-
Ready with a present.
-
Ready with a stocking.
-
Ready with Christmas dinner.
-
Ready with something fun to do tomorrow.
-
Ready with people who are willing to show up and make a hard season feel a little less hard.
Because presents are wonderful—but long after the wrapping paper is gone, we want our kids and families to remember something much bigger:
-
Someone thought about me.
-
Someone showed up.
-
I wasn't forgotten.

BE THE LIGHT THIS CHRISTMAS
Help us make Christmas brighter for children and families connected to TruLight127.
Christmas should be filled with moments children remember—the excitement of opening a gift, favorite foods, laughter, traditions, staying up too late, Christmas lights, and the feeling of knowing someone thought about you.
But for children and families walking through foster care, kinship care, adoption, financial hardship, or significant transitions, Christmas can also bring some really hard emotions.
This Christmas, TruLight127 Ministries is asking our community to help us show up.
Through Be the Light This Christmas, we will provide Christmas support for children and families across TruLight127—including foster families, adoptive families, kinship families, and the children and teens calling TruLight Youth Village home.
